Civil War Period "Stuart" Cavalry Saber Belt Hanger Attachment. Inspector marked "A. D. LAIDLEY / U.S. / ORD. DEPT. / SUB INSPECTOR" on the longest leather strap. All rivets, metal buttons, leather straps, and brass mounting hardware present. Brass keeper marked "FRANKFORD ARSENAL". For his saber attachment method, Mann incorporated an invention awarded to J.E.B. Stuart on October 4, 1859. Frankford Arsenal was to supply the brass attachment plate, hook, and catch and send them to Gaylord. As Gaylord received more orders, Frankford Arsenal began to fall behind in supplying the brass attachment plates to Gaylord. Eventually the Ordnance Department allowed Gaylord to make their own saber attachments.

Condition: Very good. The leather remains supple with some crazing to the surface.
