    Civil War Period or Late 19th Century U.S. Hospital Department Canteen and Funnel. Comprising: 1.) Oval, curved tin canteen, 11 1/2 -inches wide; 10-inches to the top of the 1 ½-inch tall spout; and 1 ¾-inched thick. Stamped on the lower edge "U.S.A. / HOSP'L DEPT. /

    18??". Tin stopper cover. Integral strap retaining loop on each side holding a 1-inch wide brown leather strap and buckle. Rare to find with strap still present. 2.) Tin funnel for filling canteens, measuring 15 1/2-inches overall with a 5 1/2-inch spout and 3-inches in diameter. Faint, indecipherable markings on the body.
