    Civil War Period Field Surgical Kit by George Tiemann. Rosewood case measures 4.375" wide, 16" long, and 3" high. There is a plain brass escutcheon inset into the lid and a brass key-plate. Box and lid are lined with red velvet which exhibits fading and minor wear. There is a black label, embossed in gold which reads "G. Tiemann Manufact of Surgic & Dental Insts. 63 Chatham St. N.Y." Two of the partitions in the base are loose. The instruments in the upper case are marked "Tiemann" as well as four in the lower case. The largest knife is bright steel but the tip is broken off, the condition of the remainder of the instruments ranges from bright to gray steel. The lock is working and the key is included.
