Civil War or Earlier Cased Set of Judge Advocate General Epaulettes. Probably the rarest set of US officer's epaulettes we've ever catalogued and the only set we've ever seen. Superb condition. Staff button, brass crescents, silver captain's bars on yellow wool backing, and heavy gold bullion and sequined oval pads with silver bullion old English JA. Boards with red Moroccan leather undersides, purple silk covered pads. Show some honest use with a few holes in the purple silk pad covering but excellent. Brass frames marked right and left. Brass crescents and staff button retain 98% of the original gilt. Insignia, heavy bullion fringe etc. all perfect. Housed in the original japanned tin storage case, excellent with no dents or bends and just some wear to the exterior finish. A rare if not unique opportunity for the American Insignia / epaulette collector.
