Civil War Navy Frock Coat and Vest of Acting 3rd Assistant Engineer Lorey Bennett. Period ink script ID on underside of hanging loop at collar. Double breasted fine quality blue wool frock coat with nine button front. Button also at top and bottom of each skirt. All buttons E. L. E. & Co. London and retaining most of the original gilt. Rolled collar, raw cut hem. Pockets in each breast and each tail, all lined with brown polished cotton. Black silk body lining and white silk sleeve lining. Coat overall really excellent, with just a few cracks in the silk body lining and a few small moth holes on the skirts. Single breasted seven button (cuff size) front vest. All buttons also E. L. E. & Co. London. Same fine blue wool material as the coat, with black silk belted back with japanned tin buckle bearing 1855 patent date. Lining of white silk with light blue pinstripes. Three exterior pockets and one interior pocket. Exterior of the vest perfect with the silk lining showing some minor stains with a few small holes at the neck, but very good sound condition.. Bennett enlisted as Acting 3rd Assistant Engineer on 8/15/62 from Massachusetts, and served on the USS Flagg and in the South Atlantic Squadron until his resignation on 2/23/65. A very attractive Civil War uniform set with excellent period ID.
