    Civil War Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword Ames Inspected And Dated 1862 Fine 32 1/2" bright blade etched for 2/3 of its length with eagle, panoply of arms floral and scroll work with Ames logo just above the ricasso and inspector stamp "J.H." on the ricasso, on the obverse, similar motifs with block "US" on the reverse dated 1862 on the ricasso. Blade retaining most of its original luster with a few small areas of light staining. Brass hilt excellent, sharkskin grip with 2 1/2" very narrow line cracks, possible actually the seam and of minimal consequence, under tight brass wire. The scabbard fine with old heavy coating of lacquer showing just a few very minor dings. Brass mounts are excellent with just a few minor dents, throat with Ames logo on verso, ring mounts decorated with acanthus leaves, brass carrying rings. A choice example of this rare US Issue sword with only a handful of examples actually issued to Regular Army officers.
