    Description

    Civil War Era 36-Star Flag. Large 85" x 147" wool flag with hand sewn stars in the canton. The hoist looks to have the original rope used to tie the flag to staff, or hang from a building. There were 36 states in the Union from October 31, 1864 to March 1, 1867, so this example may well have been used during the Civil War. The flag has repairs, some loss, and wear, but overall makes a dramatic display piece.
