    Civil War Document Archive Pertaining to William H. Campbell, A Company, New York 124th Infantry. William H. Campbell enlisted on September 12, 1862 at Goshen, New York. The 18-year old mustered into A Company of the New York 124th Infantry the same day. During his service time he was promoted to corporal and ultimately 1st sergeant. He mustered out in Washington, D. C. on June 3, 1865. Documents related to Campbell include: 1.) An engraved "Military Register", 17 x 21-inches with a roster of all soldiers and officers belonging to Company A. The document includes the battles the 124th participated in which include Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and many other important engagements. Of note there are pencil drawings of Corps badges on the reverse side of the document. 2.) A "Morning Report" document, partially printed and completed in manuscript, 30 x 10-inches, dated April, 1865, completed by Campbell as Orderly Sergeant, which gives the status of Company A. Campbell mentions a man killed in action at Petersburg, and two others who have dies as a result of wounds. 3.) Campbell's promotion documents to corporal and 1st sergeant, and his discharge document. 4.) Miscellaneous post-war documents including a dance card for the 124th first reunion, a Confederate $10 note, and claims for reimbursement. All documents contained in a contemporary black leather wallet.

    Condition: 1.) Good. With splits and holes in the many fold creases and some chipping and loss at the edges. 2.) Good. With old fold creases and a few moderate sized holes. 3.) Very good. All documents toned, with occasional scattered foxing, and with old fold creases. 4.) All items in generally very good condition.
