    Description

Civil War Company Grade Artillery Officer's Frock Coat. Fine quality blue wool, nine button front, velvet lined standup collar, 1 3/4" at the back. Great period sleeve cut with raw edge skirt. Lightly quilted silk body lining with white cotton sleeve lining. One inside breast pocket lined with brown polished cotton, interior belted back. Tail pockets also lined with brown polished cotton. A superb candidate for restoration, with just some minor scattered moth damage, most notably along the bottom edge of the tails and just below the right side of the collar, easily repaired. The coat is missing all of the breast buttons and three cuff buttons but retains the two tail buttons (Extra Quality) and all three buttons on the other cuff (Scovill) All of the buttons are eagle A's. Really a very nice coat, unquestionably Civil War, and requiring just very minor restoration.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
