Civil War Campaign Trunk Used by Lt. Joseph McCord, 1st Regt. Pa Res Corps. Wooden trunk nicely identified to Lt Joseph T. McCord. Measures 28½" long, 13½" wide, and 12½" high, with original brown finish. The trunk shows some honest wear and use but is in excellent, untouched, sound condition. Engraved on a period brass plate on the front, "Lt Jos T McCord Phoenix Artillerist Pa" and painted below, "Co G 1st Reg P.R.C." Also stamped in the wood, "J.T. McCord". McCord entered the 1st Regiment Penna Reserve Infantry (30th Volunteers) as a Lieutenant 6/6/61, was captured and subsequently exchanged for Confederate Brigadier General Johnson K. Duncan on 8/27/62. McCord was discharged for disability 10/7/62. The 30th Pa/ 1st Regt. P.R.C. saw heavy fighting during McCord's term of enlistment. They were at Manassas and the Seven Days Before Richmond, which is likely where McCord was captured although not indicated in the official records. The trunk was doubtless used by McCord as a member of the Phoenix Artillery prior to the war and the carried into service by him upon his enlistment. Wonderful ID with excellent history.
