    Description

    Civil War "Brooks' Patent Military and Traveling Writing, Work and Toilet Case" Identified to Walter Fergeson, Company "G", 20th New York State Militia. Oilcloth, measuring approximately 13 x 8 ¾-inches unrolled. Tin cylinder for holding writing implements with interior layers for holding toiletries and other personal items. Faintly marked on the inside linen lining appears the name Walter Fergeson, Company G, 20th NYSM. Fergeson's name doesn't show up on the roster of the 20th N.Y.S.M. or the 80th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Still a rare item of personal kit for the Civil War soldier.
