Civil War Boots from Maryland G.A.R. Hall. The back of each heel is fitted with a small metal shaft for mounting inset spurs. The boots are relatively short, 11.5 inches high. The leather is crazed and these are several small holes, possibly from stirrup wear. There is a .5 inch hole in the bottom of the heel of the right boot for mounting a mannequin. These were part of the collection of the Reno G.A.R. Post No. 4 in Hagerstown, Maryland. Many of the items in the collection were acquired directly from veterans who had participated in the Battle of Antietam, although there is no provenance to that effect related to this pair of boots.
