Civil War Artillery Officer's Baldric and Cartridge Box. Heavy 2¼" wide baldric/sling with alternating bands of red silk and gold bullion, red Moroccan leather underside. Tight and sound with no broken stitching. Exceptional quality, very heavy, brass fittings on both the sling and cartridge box retain about 80% of the original gilt. The 4¼" spread wing eagle on the box lid is really the finest quality we've ever seen. Box with tarred exterior and black Moroccan leather interior. Very fine, near perfect condition overall, just showing some minor use with some characteristic crazing on the tarred exterior of the box. The latch tab is missing. Really an exceptional example of this scarce and desirable piece of Civil War officer's dress equipment.
