Civil War 6th Corps Badge Ira Mills Company "B" 5th Vermont Veteran Volunteers Silver corps badge measuring 1 3/16" X 1 3/16", "T" bar pin back, catch slightly bent.
Ira Mills enlisted as a musician into Company "B" 5th Vermont Infantry on September 16, 1861. He re-enlisted on December 15, 1863, hence the Veteran Volunteers designation on the badge. This style of badge is consistent with those produced in 1864, and likely dates from that year. Mills served until the end of the war and was mustered out on June 29, 1865 at Munson's Hill, Virginia.
