    Description

Civil War: 1862 Broadside Beseeching Troops for the Defense of Washington.
9" x 12.75" broadside titled "Proclamation By The Governor and Commander-in-Chief", Boston, May 25, 1862, signed in type by John A. Andrew. It references President Lincoln's call for additional troops to come to the defense of the capital, in the aftermath of Bank's defeat at Harper's Ferry and the anticipated follow-up attack. "The whole active Militia will be summoned... They will march to relieve and avenge their brethen [sic] and friends, to oppose with fiery zeal and courageous patriotism the progress of the foe." Some tape bleed-through. Handsomely double-matted and framed to an overall size of 16.5" x 20.5".
