Christopher G. Memminger: Two Autographed Letters Signed.
Pair of letters written by the Confederate Secretary of the Treasury. The first measures 8" x 6 1/2" and was written from the Treasury Department to President Jefferson Davis on December 7 [1863]. An interesting letter concerning the production of currency. "Both our parcels of money have arrived - one (the Jacksons) has safely reached our Depository - the other has arrived at Matamoras, but I have heard nothing further of it." We assume the money was printed off-shore and smuggled past Union blockaders. The other letter is on C. C. Memminger business letter head, Flat Rock, North Carolina, October 1, 1886, replying to a question about anyone named Memminger who ever served as Secretary of State in either of the Carolinas.
