Cased Set Of "Thomson's Screw Spurs" C. 1860-1870. First set we've encountered. Housed in a French style casing, in velvet lined 3" square box with rounded corners and brass push button closure, covered with maroon Moroccan leather. Exterior of box shows considerable wear with some loss of the leather covering but quite sound. Interior lid with a silk riband embossed in gilt "Thomson's Screw Spur". All brass, gilded, spurs exquisitely made and decorated with floral engraving overall with a star on the rowel mount. 1/2' threaded brass screw for attaching to the heel of the boot with knurled knob at the back attached to smaller tightening screw. Spurs perfect, interior of the box with some wear but excellent. Very scarce form as used by many Civil War officers.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
