Brass Civil War ID Tag for George H. Hill 1st and 4th Mass. Cav. Scarce form with a bust of Lincoln and around the edge "Abraham Lincoln President War of 1861." Retains much of the original gilt with hole at the top for suspension. Die stamped on the verso "George H. Hill Massachusetts" with "Lowell" diagonally across the center. Although Hill's residence shows up as Haverhill the two cities are located in very close proximity. Hill enlisted as a teamster in the 1st Mass. Cav. on 9/20/61 and transferred, also as a teamster, to the 4th Mass. Cav on 8/4/63 where he served until muster out on 8/24/64. Rare form and interesting history.
