    5th Corps Badge Belonging to Edson J. Fifield of the 1st New Hampshire Heavy Artillery.
    28mm in size with "Edson J. Fifeld Co. H 1st H.A. N.H. Vol". In the center there are crossed cannon's. A rare badge in fine condition.

    Edson Fifield mustered into the 1st Heavy Artillery on 9/1/1864 and mustered out on 6/15/1865 at Washington, DC. On 2/26/1865 he was promoted to Corporal.

    The unit was raised in 1863 for the defenses or Portsmouth Harbor in New Hampshire and Maine. They were later transferred to garrison the numerous fortifications in Washington, DC. On 6/15/1865 the regiment was mustered out, arriving in New Hampshire on the 19th for final pay and discharge.
