    [U.S. Colored Troops]. General Order No. 58 Regarding the Appointment of Officers to The Colored Troops. One sheet, two pages, 5.5" x 8", "In the Field", Texas; September 4, 1865. Field printing transmitting a general order from Washington, March 21, 1865, concerning the appointments and promotions for white officers and white enlisted men in the U.S. Colored Troop regiments. It directs, in part:

    "All authority, heretofore given Commanding Generals of Armies, Departments, or to other officers, to appoint officers to U.S. Colored Troops, will cease from the date of the receipt of these instructions, except for new regiments to be raised".

    Condition: Slight toning around edges, minimal ink transfer, else good.
