[Texas Rangers]. Confederate Broadside: "Song. Ben M'Cullough. Air - 'Someting [sic] new comes every day,'" circa 1862. 4.75" x 9.75". Written in five stanzas, the song praises McCulloch as a Southern hero who will scatter "all the Lincoln nests" and will "work night and day to set the South free." It is believed that the song was written sometime between the beginning of the Civil War and McCulloch's death at the Battle of Pea Ridge [Arkansas, March 7, 1862]. Areas of light wrinkling. Two small chips to the lower left and right edges.

Benjamin McCulloch (1811-1862) arrived in Texas late in 1835 to help fellow Tennessean David Crockett and his men, but contracted measles in Nacogdoches and was bedridden. Crockett and his boys were slaughtered at the Alamo two months later. He joined the Texan army under Sam Houston and was present at the Battle of San Jacinto. Following the war he became a Texas Ranger, participated in the Battle of Monterrey and served as General Zachary Taylor's army chief of scouts during the Mexican War, and scouted the western frontier prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. He served with much distinction as a brigadier general during the Civil War, commanding troops at the battles of Wilson's Creek and Pea Ridge.
