    [Slavery] 1788 New York Slave Bill of Sale - "one Negro man Named Tom a Slave for life". One page, 7" x 12", New York, December 30, 1788, with old folds, light foxing, and minor flaws, else fine. In part: "Know all men by these Present that we Johannes Louks of Torlough ... Peter Louks of Ulster County...Maria Maure of Ulster County...Catharian [sic] Cremma of Helbergh in the County of Albany...for and in consideration of Thirty Eight pounds New York money to Us in hand paid by Jacob Moure of Ulster County... have Bargened [sic] Sold and Delivered ... one Negro Man Named Tom a Slave for life about Twenty five years...". Johannes signs his name "Loucks" instead of "Louks" as it appears elsewhere in the document. Peter Louks and Catharina Cremma have made their "x" marks at the bottom of the document. New York abolished slavery in 1827.
