    "Part of a Blanket Taken from a Confederate Horse at the Battle of [Gettysburg] July 3 1863" With the rest of the period ink note attached to the 7" X 11" piece of heavy woven red, white and blue cotton, stating "by Joseph Aldrich (Saunders) of the second Vermont Infantry. Saunders enlisted on 6/20/61, re-enlisted on 12/21'63 and mustered out 7/15/16. Label with some water staining, resulting on the loss of the word Gettysburg as well as making Saunders' name difficult to read but unquestionably period. A most unusual Gettysburg artifact, archivally mounted and framed.
