Description
[Daniel Ruggles]. Group of War Dated Letters (14) to Ruggles. A small group of letters and other documents addressed to Daniel Ruggles during the Civil War, dating from April 18, 1861 through April 18, 1864. Various topics covered, including orders and reports, appointment inquiries, ordinance and ordinance store invoices, etc. A note dated April 18, 1864, from D.R. Williams discusses the requisition of guns and ammunition according to General Polk's requirements.Also included is a Daniel Ruggles Fair Copy Letter, three pages of a bifolium, 8" x 10", dated July 3, 1862 and addressed to Colonel Adolphus Olivier, regarding the passing of a bill to organize a state naval force. He writes that "as you have done me the Honor to request my opinion respecting it & respectfully state that in the present struggle for the maintenance of our national independence & the integrity of our state sovereignty & conceive that every resource should be made available for purpose of defense especially at this critical period of the war waged by a remorseless enemy."
Condition: Letters range from good to very fine; usual mail folds, light toning, minor wear and soiling in places.
