    Hand-colored engraved plate depicting a scene from the Battle of Shiloh. New York: Currier & Ives, 1862. Single sheet, 13.5" x 18". The Battle of Shiloh had one of the highest casualty rates of the Civil War, but resulted in a decisive Union victory, allowing them to advance into Mississippi and take control of the Confederate railway system. Paper very slightly yellowed with age, slightly softened at extremities with a few soft creases at corners and one very short tear toward top of right edge; fait tidemarks extending in from bottom corners; a bit of light spotting, staining.
