[Abraham Lincoln]: Anti-Lincoln Letter. 2-page letter written on both sides of a single sheet of legal-sized lined paper, Louisiana, Missouri, November 2, 1862. William writes to his parents and "dishes" President Lincoln. "The last finishing touch is the emancipation question that Lincoln minions have set about trying to ruin this State in order to carry out that doctrine... Our Senator has worked in earnest, inviting Speakers from other States here to persuade the citizens of this State that they would lose all their niggers any how and they had best sell out... a good many in this county became affected with a disease that is very prevalent in the free State, that is nigger on the brain... Many have come to the conclusion that the president will not be sustained in his proclamation." The balance of the letter talks about the hardships endured by those who have joined the militia, as well as battles with the rebels. Text somewhat light with many spelling errors, but legible and worth the effort to decipher.
