Civil War Presentation Grade US M1850 Staff and Field Officer's Sword. The basket of the guard is pierced with tendrils of acorns and oak leaves intertwined with a U.S. Large eaglehead quillon. The face of the guard is also scroll engraved. Scroll engraved knuckle bow which flares with scrolls where it joins the pommel. The pommel is surmounted by a full figure eagle on a hemisphere. The grip/pommel are cast as one piece with drapery at the pommel, beading and fluting, and the grip face surrounded by deeply cast leaves and berries. The face of the grip is a separately affixed full standing figure of an American Indian with halberd tomahawk, arrow quiver, and roach type headdress, all finished in silver. The hilt retains much of the original gilt, is totally untouched/uncleaned and it is very likely an ammonia bath will reveal more of the original gilt. The blade exhibits a coat of very light pitting and there is no etching visible. Marked W. Clauberg/Solingen with knight on the reverse ricasso. A very rare and extremely desirable form.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
