    Civil War Presentation Cavalry Officer's Sword H. Sauerbier Newark NJ. 35" dark and worn blade engraved for 2/3 its length with scroll motif, ricasso marked "H. Sauerbier Newark N.J." Hilt with a shallow dent on the outer branch, brass toned dark engraved on the full length of outer branches one third of the inner branch, quillon where the guard enters the pommel and the face of the pommel. Grip is worn, wire is replaced. Steel scabbard body and drag are heavily pitted, heavy cast brass ring mounts with leaf and acorn motifs, throat missing. Mounted above the upper mount is a much worn silver shield with few legible words "Presented to Lt" -- / By the Citizens of --- Ind".
