    Description

Civil War Horstmann Brothers & Co. 1862 First Contract Canteen With Blue Twill Wool Cover. Approximately 8-inches in diameter, marked "H. B. & Co.* PHILAD.*" on the spout. The cover is blue twill wool which Mike O'Donnell states in his book U.S. Army & Militia Canteens 1775-1910 is the same material used to make uniforms. The canteen is complete with cotton carrying strap, stopper and chain. A particularly nice example.

Condition: Very good to excellent. Some minor small stains and a small area of loss due to insect damage on one side.
