    Description

Civil War Gallager .50 Caliber Percussion Breech Loading Carbine. Interestingly, this was one of a three gun consignment in which someone had made each of the guns inoperable, in this case by removing the hammer, which is missing along with the hammer screw. All metal smooth and dark gray to brown, no pitting and just a few tiny patches of surface rust that will clean nicely without pitting residue. Markings excellent with #16769 on the face of the lock and assembly #175 inside the patchbox lid. The mechanism is fine, simply requiring the hammer. Bore with deep crisp rifling with some surface rust and will scour out to excellent plus. Wood shows honest wear and use with a number of scattered dents and one small old chip at the butt plate, minor. Wood with deep dark patina and retaining traces of inspector's cartouche. Actually, a very tight crisp gun, that appears to have simply suffered the effects of poor storage, but can be cleaned/ restored, with minimal effort, into an excellent example of this desirable and rather scarce Civil War carbine.
