    Description

Civil War Blanket with Period ID to Eloi Curchod, 12th New Hampshire Inf. Coarse gray/ brown weave, typical of Civil War period blankets. Dimensions now 58" x 74", clearly originally slightly larger, with several of the edges rebound with coarse black thread to stop it from further unraveling. A detail often encountered on Civil War used blankets. Neatly embroidered on one corner in red 0.75" letters "EC". Blanket overall in excellent condition, just showing honest wear and use with all of the nap worn away. Born in Switzerland, Curchod enlisted in the 12th NH on December 18, 1863, served with the regiment through heavy fighting in 1864, and deserted from the Fortress Monroe Hospital on February 9, 1865. Nice representative example with an interesting but checkered history.
