Charles F. Allgower, Pensacola, Fla. Taken from the Old Spanish Establishment with Santa Rosa in the Distance, graphite drawing on paper, c. 1862, 12.5" x 7.5" (sight size), matted and framed to an overall size of 17.5" x 12.25", signed lower right "C. F. Allgower". The drawing shows a Union officer and a woman walking on a path above the town. Important buildings in the town are identified by a legend at the bottom of the drawing. On the far right is "Cotton press and Rebel storehouse occupied by Co's I, H, E & C". A large building on the left side of the main street is a building identified as, "S. A. Mallory's House (Ex-Senator and Secretary of Navy of C.S.A.) Headquarters of Col. Wilson and Staff Quarters of Co. B & K". Across the street from Mallory's house is a home identified as, "Col. [William Henry] Chase (Rebel Army) House now Genl. [Lewis Golding] Arnold's Quarters". Also identified are the "Fleet laying offshore" and "Hyer House occupied by Wilson's Zouaves Co. A & F". The painting shows perhaps the best contemporary depiction of the Union occupation of Pensacola known. One crease, else, excellent condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
