    Cased Posthumous, Interwar U.S. Army Distinguished Service Medal to Col. Edward C. Register, Issued in 1920 Medal is rim numbered "1998", fine condition with excellent enamels. The original ribbon exhibits wear on the bar. Correct case shows minor wear and bruises, with wear to the silk pad. Case penciled on the reverse "Col. E.C. Register". All components marked with museum inventory numbers, the medal having been deaccessioned from the Citadel museum. The medal is a posthumous award for the Polish Relief Expedition in 1920, one of only seventeen Army interwar awards of the DSM. Colonel Edward Register, part of the Polish Relief Expedition, organized and established a 1500 bed hospital at Tarnopol Poland, the entire city being prostrate from the effects of typhus fever. Fifteen days after his arrival in the city he contracted typhus fever and died.
