    Description

Berdan Sharp Shooters Gettysburg Reunion Flag.
The United States Sharpshooters were an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the Civil War. During battle, the mission of the sharpshooter was to kill enemy targets of importance (officers and NCOs) from long range. The first regiment of volunteers began service in late November 1861. During their service, they fought in every Eastern battle up until autumn of 1864. During their tour, the Sharpshooters were noted for efficient service in the battles of Yorktown, Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Spotsylvania and Petersburg.

Offered is this rare 48 star Sharp Shooters reunion flag. The flag was owned by Lt. Curtis Abbott (11/4/1840-11/15/1935) of Co. H 2nd Berdan Sharp Shooters. Abbott was WIA at the 2nd Battle at Bull Run, the Battle of the Wilderness, and also fought at Gettysburg. It is likely that Abbott acquired this flag at the 50th Gettysburg Reunion in July 1913. The flag measures 17 1/2" x 29 1/4". There is a small split at the bottom edge of the hoist and some light age. Overall in fine condition.
