Be A U.S. Marine 39.5" x 27.5" Artist: James Montgomery Flagg. Printed for the U.S. Marine Corps. Another poster in the pantheon of James M. Flagg creations. This one is simplistic and almost spartan in appearance compared to his other works, like "I Want You" and "Tell That to the Marines," both of which are ripe with emotion and virility. This poster, however, in its simplicity is quite masterful. Its "short and sweet" sentiment was what the Marines represented; a group who went in and got the job done, no questions asked. Flagg himself was much like this in many respects; when he was not illustrating or drawing he would paint for himself. He felt that being an artist was something inborn and in your genes, not taught in school. He dismissed all his art school and formal education as wasted time. A man of few words, just like his Marine pictured here. Superior condition; normal edge wear from rolling/storage. Do not miss this one, it is excellent!
