An Exceptional Plains Indian Pipe Tomahawk, Circa 1870. The 7 7/8" forged iron head is mounted on the original 20 7/8" oak haft. The head exhibits the finest quality workmanship. The octagonal pipe bowl is separately affixed, with visible traces of the seam, and is decorated with bands of incised lines. Near perfect condition with a deep dark untouched patina. The haft exhibits a rich smooth patina, just some very minor dents/scratches, and is profusely decorated with ¼" brass tacks, which also display an untouched patina. The front side of the haft is decorated for its entire length with seventeen separate applications of a hot file and thirty-six brass tacks. Carved with seven deep V notches on the back side below the head, and there is a pierced protrusion 5" from the bottom, with another piercing at the bottom, for attaching suspended decoration. Top of the haft with the original clean out plug, bottom with the original integrally carved mouth piece. Interestingly the piece carries verbal provenance of having been originally obtained by Johnny Baker, Buffalo Bill Cody's "adopted" son. A great tomahawk in superb condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
