    Description

American Revolutionary War Officer's Short Saber. Although generically similar forms could potentially date to the early Federal period, we are certain this example does not post date 1780, and is unquestionably of American manufacture. The sturdy 29" blade curves toward the tip and is completely hand forged. Completely flat with no fullers. Some scattered small patches of light pitting and a few small nicks but generally excellent. Someone used an electric pencil to engrave their SSN on the blade at the top edge near the hilt, but very shallow and easily removed. All iron D-guard hilt with 1" high iron 'beehive' pommel. Some decorative grooves cut on the face of the knucklebow, which exhibits deep dark patina and some light pitting. There is a decorative brass ring between the pommel cap and the top of the grip, and a sheet brass ferrule at the base of the grip. Spiral carved cylindrical bone grip with one very minor age hairline, but very sound with wonderful patina. There is no scabbard. Very nice example of an American officer's sword from the period of the Revolution.
