American Enlisted Cavalry Saber in the Style of the M1807 Rose Marked Only with the Letter M. Overall a bit lighter than the Rose with a notably different fuller configuration. 35" curved blade with central fuller running the entire length of the blade and narrow fuller along the top running to the commencement of the false edge 9 1/2" from the tip. Marked on the obverse near the base with a deeply struck letter M. Blade overall excellent, smooth and gray with no rust or pitting and just a few tiny, negligible, nicks. Retains half of the original red wool washer. Stirrup shaped hilt very similar to the Rose, but somewhat lighter and with a noticeably stronger bow in the backstrap. Dark wood grip with ferrule at the base, retaining all of the original twisted brass wire.
Hilt overall about perfect with no rust or pitting.
A rare American sword, doubtless identifiable as to maker, and in superb condition.
