    Description

    93rd Regiment New York Infantry: Group of Items Belonging to Sharpshooter and Surgeon George Maisden Brennan. Includes 100" x 4" emerald green Medical Corps sash, a 4" x 1.5" infantry major's shoulder strap and a 3.25" x 2.5" hat emblem with gold metallic thread against a deep emerald velvet ground, inscribed "US/SS" (United States Sharp Shooters") with crossed rifles. All items in very good to excellent condition. These belonged to an ancestor of the consignor who served in the Civil War, Major G. M. Brennan. See service record below:

    George Maisden Brennan, d.o.b. 5-19-35 in Canada, and died 1878 in New York. He enlisted in the New York 93rd Infantry Regiment ("The Morgan Rifles" and the "Northern Sharpshooters" and "The New York Riflemen") as a private and was eventually promoted to full surgeon on 29 December, 1864. His unit was mustered in at Albany during the period of October, 1861 to January of 1862. The 93rd served at: Yorktown, Lee's Mills, Fair Oaks, Savage's Station, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Laurel Hill, the North Anna River, Totopotomoy Creek, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, James River, Weldon Railroad, Deep Bottom Run, Strawberry Plains, Charles City Cross Roads, Poplar Springs Church, Ream's Station, Boyd Plank Road, Berryville, Nottoway River, the Appomattox Campaign, Farmville, Sailor's Creek, Amelia Court House, Deatonsville Road, High Bridge and Farmville. The unit was mustered out of service near Washington D.C. on June 29, 1865.
