18th Century Silver Mounted British F/L Holster Pistol. 13½" overall with 8" .65 caliber smoothbore round brass barrel. Three proofs at the breech with London on top of the barrel. Decorative engraving at the breech and the tang. Lock is smooth and gray with decorative engraving around the edges and marked Freeman. Silver mountings exceptional. Intricate open work sideplate and elaborate wrist escutcheon Trigger guard bow deeply embossed with flower and elaborate leaf like finial. Touch marks on the trigger guard extension date the gun to 1758/59. Magnificent butt cap with Griffin on a castle turret on a panoply of arms surrounded by elaborate and deep relief scroll work. Deep relief carved fan details around and to the rear of the tang. Wood overall excellent with nice patina, however, the front 2½" of the forestock has been restored. Beautifully done and detracts little. There is also a small piece reglued at the top front of the lock, again minor. A very nice French and Indian War silver mounted British officer's pistol.
