    Description

18th Century All Brass Scottish F/L Belt Pistol. 12" overall with 7½" .58 caliber smoothbore barrel that is configured octagon to round to octagon, and flared at the muzzle. Gun fabricated entirely of brass, with the only exceptions being the external lock parts and the ramrod, which is possibly an expertly made replacement. All surfaces covered with scroll and geometric engraving with floral rosette on the bottom of the butt cap. Hammer also profusely engraved. Signed on the brass lock "T. Murdoch". Barrel with British proofs at the breech, 3½" brass belt hook also deeply engraved. Mechanically perfect. Overall superb condition, with just one small worn spot on the the thin sheet ramrod channel, minor. Superb example of a very rare form.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
