    Rare Confederate Cavalry Manual Identified to Lt. E. C. Randolph, Virginia Cavalry.

    [Confederate Imprint] George [Washington] Patten. Cavalry Drill and Sabre Exercise,: Compiled Agreeably to the Latest Regulations of the War Department, From Standard Military Authority. Richmond: West & Johnson, 1862. First edition. 4.5" x 6.75". 165 pages. Diagrams. Original printed wrappers. Scattered foxing and mild toning, otherwise a remarkably well-preserved copy of this rare Confederate imprint, and in excellent condition. This is identified to Edward C. Randolph, a Lieutenant in the 7th and 12th Cavalry. His name is written in ink at the top of the front wrapper "E. C. Randolph Feb. 5" and also in pencil across the title page: "E. C. Randolph Book / Feby. 5, 63". Randolph served in Company I of the 7th Virginia Cavalry and Company H of the 12th Virginia Cavalry. He enlisted as a private but was promoted to Lieutenant on April 18, 1862. [Parish & Willingham, 4987].
