    Description

[Battle of Gettysburg]: First National 10-Star Bible Flag.
5" x 3" silk flag, hand-stitched, with ten stars in the canton. The stars are paper with a silver top layer, glued into place. Some loss and discoloration to the stars, one pinhole and some minor light stains. Framed and double-glazed. A caption card on verso reads: "Confederate Flag, found on the battlefield of Gettisburg [sic] by my father (Jesse Platt) where he was looking for his brother who was fatally wounded." We are selling an archive of letters & documents related to Charles Platt and his brother, Edwin, who served in the 7th Regiment New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, both of whom were captured at Gettysburg. Charles received what was thought to be a minor wound and was escorted to Jersey City by his brother Jesse, only to die on July 28, 1863.
