Description[Abraham Lincoln]: Group of Patriotic Civil War Era Badges. Mini-collection of five badges issued circa 1861-1862 in support of the Union cause. There are three shield-shape brass badges inscribed "National Union League" with hand-painted highlights (one with repair to pin where it attaches to hinge). There is an oval badge with paper insert under glass inscribed "Union" against a stars & stripes background (lateral crack in glass). Finally, there is a stickpin with eagle, shield and flags flanking an oval ferrotype of Major Robert Anderson (overall crazing). All of the items retain their original pin attachments. These made a nice adjunct to Lincoln or McClellan campaign badges. From the collection of Robert and Julie Sterling.
