United States Navy Chapeau with Japanned Tin Case. The beaver chapeau has a black silk lining and a maker's stamp for Joseph Starkey of London. There is an unofficial patriotic rosette added to the chapeau at a later date. The tin case is marked, both on the exterior and the lining, with the name of the maker, Joseph Starkey. The case also has a brass plaque with the name of the owner of the chapeau, J. D. Bengless, U.S. Navy. In 1887 Chaplain John D. Benglass held the relative rank of commander. The chapeau shows signs of wear.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
