Hastings was commissioned into the 12th Maine's Staff & Field on November 15, 1861, served honorably for several months, and resigned on June 15, 1862. This group includes: 1) Regulation Major's Frock Coat with original shoulder straps and the Major's name sewn in at the vest pocket. 2)Very fine Officer's Forage Cap with Infantry Insignia and "12" in the horn's center, with Hastings' name inside. 3)Pair of Civil War Officer's Gauntlets with Hastings' name written inside. 4) Fine Civil War Officer's Sash. 5) Very fine Civil War Officer's Sword Belt. 6) Model 1850 Officer's Sword and Scabbard. 7) CDV of Major Hastings wearing everything except the hat.
According to the consignor he purchased this group in its entirety from the family of Major Hastings almost 30 years ago.
A set of this quality, identified to the soldier who wore it, does not come on the market often.
