    Officer's M1851 Shako of the Washington Rifles of Frederick County Maryland. Stands 6" high at front of the stiff body with blue wool on the top portion and yellow wool on the lower section. Some scattered mothing but very good and very sound. Gilt brass letters "W R" affixed at either side of rifleman's bugle. Unique insignia at the bottom with heavy gilt brass laurel leaf wreath surrounding American shield with three stars in the field. The bound 'duckbill' visor has become detached from the body along with the 1/2" wide gold bullion chin strap with adjusting loops. Interior with 2" black oil cloth sweatband perfect. Light brown silk drawstring lining with maker, "D. F. Berrer / 10 North William St. / New York" embossed in gilt on the orange paper crown lining. A very scarce form, unit ID'd M1851 shako and readily restorable.
