    Exceptional New York State Officer's M1851 Shako. Stiff blue wool body 5 3/4" high at front and about perfect condition with just a few tiny, negligible moth holes. Gilt brass New York state seal plate affixed to the front at top. 1/2" gold bullion chinstrap with adjusting loops and New York state side buttons. Bound, 'duckbill' tarred leather visor. Interior with 1 7/8" black oil cloth sweatband, missing one small piece at back else about perfect. Leather plume socket and embossed in gilt on the black oil cloth crown "Wm. H. Smith / No. 4 Maiden Lane / New York." A really beautiful M1851 officer's shako.
