Civil War Union Cavalry Enlisted Mans' Shell Jacket.
A nice example of the iconic and colorful cavalry uniform or "shell" jacket. The deep blue wool body is trimmed down the front, lower edge and around the 2 ½-inch tall collar with yellow 3/8-inch worsted lace as per regulation, with the correct lace trim down the back seams ending in the familiar saber belt "pillows" at the base. The front retains all 12 of the original twelve small general service buttons (Scovills backmarks) with all other buttons intact at the cuffs and collar. The interior has what appears to be a linen or cotton type lining. The white cotton lining of both sleeves are stenciled with "JOSEPH LEE / 64 & 66 / LISPENARD & / 62 WALKER ST. / NEW-YORK".
    Robert D. Moser Collection.

    Condition: Excellent.
