    Civil War Period Regulation US Engineer Officer's Chapeau in the Original Japanned Tin Storage Container. Rises to 6" high at the front and 6 1/2" at the back, with black ostrich feather plumage between the two sides. Diagonal 1 1/2" wide bands of black silk ribbon near each corner, with gold bullion tassels on each end. 2" wide 6 1/4" long diagonally applied gold bullions tape with gold bullion rope like border. Separately affixed gilt brass spread wing eagle, 2 3/4" wing tip to wing tip, with open riband at the top, with regulation Civil War Period Engineer officer's button affixed at the bottom. All of this mounted on a tufted/folded black silk cockade. Exterior of the chapeau near perfect, just showing some wear at the corners.
    Interior with 2" high maroon Moroccan leather sweat band which is decoratively embossed. Maroon silk lining which bears the embossed gilt logo in the crown of Warmock & Co. at the 519 Broadway (Civil War period) address. Interior about perfect just showing minor signs of wear. The original tin storage case is near perfect with no dents or bends and retaining 90% of the original Japanned finish.
